afterthoughts: given anime (2019) & given manga (up till ch38)

whoa i didn’t realize the anime aired back in 2019 till i looked it up… 😅 for some reason i missed the timing to watch the anime as it aired, and never got around to binge-watching it... until last weekend.

i am, obsessed, with the fuyu no hanashi performance scene in ep9… like mannn, the build up to that performance, interspersed with the flashback that implies why yuki k-word himself? and the way mafuyu sang That “aaaah~!” part, letting all the emotions he couldn’t express out?? i actually teared a little 😭 the past few days i watch the scene over and over again during lunch breaks, and when lunch break is over, i loop the song on spotify over and over LOL… _(:3」∠)_ 

 

i didn’t plan on reading the manga before watching the movie, but asdfghjkl i have no self-control and wanted to know if there was more content of mafuyu and yuki that the anime left out… there wasn’t lol. oh well… 

 

so new plan! i decided to read up till where the anime left off, watch the movie, then continue the manga. (looks at post title) 3 days later i’m all caught up... 🥴😂

 

i have some issues with the pacing and i question some of the actions the characters make, but overall i really like given! i adore the characters and love the SOL bits of the manga 🥰🥰🥰🥰 

 

i’m really fond of ueki and itaya, so hopefully they get more screentime in the manga! we’re focusing on hiiragi and shizu’s arc right now, so i doubt i’ll be seeing them again anytime soon though lol. 

 

i also love all the platonic pairings sensei gives us throughout the manga, but somehow i’m extra fond of the hiiragi and uenoyama dynamic hahaha. maybe irl if i had friends like them, i would feel annoyed and stressed out cause of their constant bickering, but as characters from a manga i kinda love them? 😂 i love how while they hate each other, they also still respect and acknowledge each other as musicians :’) by far my favourite moment of them together is when they met for the first time, and uenoyama already hates hiiragi cause of his ore-sama attitude 😂

 

(sigh) icb i’m all caught up with the manga already… can't wait for the movie to be out and streaming on CR! i am ready for the angst. in the meantime, guess i’ll go watch the performance for the nth time and Drown In The Feels...
