i am ginhiji trash ahahahahahaha
specifically, ichikawa kei-sensei's doujin versions of ginhiji - i want to cry.
i was re-reading one of her works, "izayoi no tsuki" for the nth time again the other day, and i just want to punch a wall cause damn son, it's still so cute.
she has a lot, a lot of ginhiji doujins, and i didn't even read them all cause i don't know where to find them, but of what i did find and read thus far, izayoi no tsuki is a favourite cause
SO MUCH SPOILER ALERT BTW
1) like 80% of the story is from hijikata's pov and how he slowly falls in love with gin and pining for him while trying to deny his feelings and getting flustered and overthinking and just (FIRE EMOJI)
context: most of sensei's ginhiji doujins, especially the popular ones, are more from gin's pov, so when she does it from hijikata's pov it's like i'm being assured that he likes gin as much as gin likes him and i just (ugly sobbing)
2) the way she writes them for this story is very in-character. it can almost completely fit in with canon and i lose my shit just thinking about it hahahaha. imo all of her doujins are very in-character actually, except for this one particular AU she did where ginhiji were college students (gin was totally ooc there but it was still cute heh).
3) it's a straight-up, no frills love story where they slowly get to know each other by having dinner together whenever hijikata doesn't have to work (there's one time they play a crossword together OMG SO DAMN DOMESTIC I'M ON FIRE that goes on for like i think five pages. FIVE) and they ultimately end up together after confirming that their feelings are mutual which has me in happy tears as i stare off into space cause i don't know what to do with my feelings.
context: sensei also has a number of ginhiji doujins (both set in the canon universe and AUs) where she starts off their relationship asenemies friends with benefits that slowly fall in love BUT ends with them thinking they're only using each other for sex so yeah i love the angst like hnng, but i also want my bois to be happy so :'D
and now i feel like reading it AGAIN. good job self.
